ICAR-IIPR Field Research Demonstrates the Performance of Navyakosh® in Mungbean Cultivation

Modern agriculture demands solutions that improve crop productivity while maintaining soil health and ensuring better profitability for farmers. To evaluate the effectiveness of Navyakosh®, a comprehensive field study was conducted at ICAR – Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, focusing on mungbean cultivation under different nutrient management practices. The findings highlighted the potential of Navyakosh® as an efficient biofertilizer for sustainable pulse production
Objective of the Study
The research compared multiple nutrient management practices, including:
Recommended Chemical Fertilizers (NPK)
Navyakosh® @ 375 kg/ha
Farmyard Manure (FYM)
Integrated Nutrient Management
Control (No Fertilizer)
The study evaluated crop growth, yield, nutrient uptake, soil properties, and economic returns to determine the most effective nutrient management strategy.
Key Findings
🌱 Improved Crop Growth and Yield
The study found that Navyakosh® applied at 375 kg/ha during land preparation produced superior plant growth and yield compared with the control treatment and also outperformed the recommended chemical fertilizer treatment. The improved performance was observed in both above-ground and below-ground plant development.
📈 Higher Grain Yield
Research results showed that Navyakosh® achieved:
29% higher grain yield compared with the control.
5% higher grain yield compared with the recommended chemical fertilizer treatment.
These results demonstrate the product's potential to enhance productivity while supporting sustainable farming practices.
🌿 Better Nutrient Uptake
The study also observed improvements in nutrient concentration within the crop.
Notably:
Plant phosphorus content increased by 13.8% over the control.
Seed phosphorus content increased by 16.3% over the control.
Improved nutrient uptake contributes to healthier crop development and more efficient utilization of applied nutrients.
💰 Greater Profitability for Farmers
Beyond agronomic performance, Navyakosh® also delivered stronger economic returns.
Compared with the recommended fertilizer treatment:
12.6% higher net returns
18.1% higher Benefit:Cost (B:C) ratio
The report concluded that improved productivity translated directly into better farm profitability.
Why Biofertilizers Matter
The discussion section of the study highlights that biofertilizers support crop development through multiple biological mechanisms, including:
Biological nitrogen fixation
Improved phosphorus and potassium availability
Production of natural plant growth-promoting substances
Better tolerance to environmental stresses

The report also notes that excessive dependence on conventional fertilizers may contribute to environmental concerns and declining soil health, making biofertilizers an important component of sustainable agriculture
The ICAR-IIPR field evaluation demonstrates that Navyakosh® can play a valuable role in improving mungbean productivity while supporting soil health and increasing farmer profitability. The research indicates that the recommended application rate of 375 kg/ha offers measurable agronomic and economic benefits compared with conventional nutrient management practices tested in the study.
